Review: Cinema visits

Alright it's been a while since I did some movie reviews. And since in the last 2 months, I've seen about 4 movies (with more coming up). So I thought let's review them and tell you what I thought about it.

The Host
Let's start out with the Host. A film made after Stephenie Mayer (yes, from the Twilight books) book, with the same name. I've read this book about 3 years ago, and all though I definitely forgot about some bits of it, the story really interested me. The trailer looked good and well.. After reading the books I had to go and see it, didn't I? But.. (here comes the 'but') I didn't impress as much as I hoped it would. It missed a lot of the story line which I loved in the book. And of course there was the love triangle again, yes it really does start to annoy me, and it just came out of nothing. There wasn't enough character building for me. And hearing Wanda's voice was a lot different then actually reading it. The movie was alright at some point as I really liked the look of the cave they stayed in. And the rumours of another part.. Why? I don't think that was necessary. Well let's just say, I thought the movie was okay for a lazy Sunday night, but not for the cinema.

For the people who don't know what I'm talking about, this is what the story is about:
When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.

Overall: 5.5/10

Crush #8: Rose Leslie

I wouldn't say that I'm a massive fan of Rose (I do really like here tho!), but I do think she's absolutely gorgeous. Not to forget about her character Ygritte (whom I love) in Game of Thrones. Because well.. "You know nothing Jon Snow." As the girl 'kissed by fire' and her gorgeous red hair I've started to develop a girl crush. I haven't seen her in anything else yet but think this could be the start of her career. (I hope) I've finished Storm of Swords so do know a little something about what will happen to her in the next season. But my lips are sealed and I won't say anything.

Oh and a little comment on the second picture. Do you recognise Emilia Clarke? One of my earlier girl crushes.

What do you guys think of Rose Leslie?

Movies: Superhero madness

It's 2013, once again a great year for movies. If you know which ones I've already seen. Check out my movie list. But I've already seen 6 movies in the cinema. (Life of Pi, Les Miserables, Django Unchained, Side Effects, the Host, the Place Beyond the Pines) But now we're looking forward, more and more trailers are starting to pop up and there's a lot to look forward to.

And as you might have noticed, superhero movies are everywhere. Especially this next year. (and don't forget about last year, the Avengers, Spiderman...) These are the ones coming up the next few months I'm very excited for. Unfortunately my favourite superhero (sssh it's DC, don't tell Marvel) is not doing any movies at the moment (yes it's Batman), but there might be some hope for a Justice League movie. But a very close second favourite, Iron Man, luckily will be in the list.

Iron Man 3
Trailer: here
I already told about my secret crush on Robert Downey Jr. before. But this Iron Man movie looks epic! Everything is about to go wrong and of course, there's going to be a new bad guy. And I secretly hope, that it will be better then the second movie, which I liked but didn't love. Oh and don't forget! Always stay until the end of the credits during a Marvel movie, there might be something more waiting for you!

Meeting a celebrity

I didn't meet that much people just on the street, but I did meet quite a few on events. The ones for which you pay money yes. But I would like to share my experience with you. I didn't really speak to every of these people but to the ones I did, it was an amazing experience. This is not to brag, because you don't just go to these events, you invest quite a bit of money and time to actually realize this kind of events. I just want to share my experience with you.

What is 'meeting' exactly? I've been to a few premieres where I've seen people but didn't speak to them because of the amount of people being there. So I want to make that split right here, I'm starting of the blogpost with people I've seen and people I've met. Not including in the people I've seen are artists at concert, because the list would become to big. I'll include an (a) after the people I managed to get an autograph of.

People I've seen:
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson (a), J.K. Rowling, Rupert Grint (a), James & Oliver Phelps (a), Tom Felton (a), Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Evanna Lynch (a) and because this would take ages I'm just going to say, the rest of the Harry Potter cast.
William Moseley, Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley (a) (who I had a very short talk with, but only because I said she looked beautiful), Skandar Keynes, Will Poulter (a), Anna Popplewell and same story here, the rest of the Chronicles of Narnia cast. (+ One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle who attended)
Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes premiere), Orlando Bloom (a), Luke Evans (a), Logan Lerman and a few more at the Three Musketeers premiere. David Tennant (walked by us on an event), Tom Hardy (who we casually saw somewhere on the streets in London).
Billy Boyd and Sean Astin who attended RingCon and start in The Lord of the Rings.

I also met Simple Plan, Lifehouse, Justin Nozuka, Scouting for Girls and Jack Savoretti. (I do have autographs of all these artists, on my Pinkpop hat haha)

Another post of cosplay

Nieke you promised to show us more photos. I know! And am so sorry, but the video is waiting to be edited and while I was actually planning on doing that today.. I lost the cable for my hard drive so now I can't get to the footage. Sorry! Will try to get it done for somewhere this week. And the photos.. I'm still planning on making those. But these one more essential thing which has to arrive in the apartment before I really want to show everything.

I also wanted to let you all know that I'll be back in the Netherlands from this Saturday on. I'm leaving my laptop in London so I'm not sure if I'll be able to post some blogs. I'll definitely do my best as I'll probably use my parents iPad for those few days. I'll be back in London on Thursday.

But what I actually came here for today is another post of cosplay.

Movies: Reviews

It's time for some movie reviews! Next to re-watching all the Harry Potter movies this month, because my boyfriend had never seen them, I've watched some movies.. I'd never seen before. I also decided to give the movies a grade out of 10.

Side Effects
This is the only movie I saw in the cinema of these 4. I didn't really hear that much about it, but my boyfriend really wanted to see it. Side Effects is about a young woman (Rooney Mara) being prescribed antidepressant drugs. The movie is directed by Steven Soderbergh (Magic Mike, Haywire, the Ocean's movies) and is what I'd would say confusing! I think I liked it but it definitely needed some time to sink in. It's not a movie you just watch, it's what I would call a mind-fuck, all though not as much as I'd expected it to be. And as I don't want to spoil the movie to you, I can't say that much about it. It's very clever and interesting to watch, I wouldn't say, run to your nearest cinema to see it. But if you've got some time.. Check it out!

Overall: 6.5

Blue Valentine
Girls.. Grab some tissues before watching this movie! Blue Valentine is about a couple (Ryan Gosling & Michelle Williams) of whom you follow the story of their relationship. The movie is heartbreaking and both actors do such a fantastic job portraying it. The good thing about this movie is that you jump back and forth in time, without it being confusing. It's not one of Ryan Gosling's most famous movies and until my boyfriend told me about it.. I didn't even hear about this movie. I watched it while being ill which is maybe not the best idea, because it will make you quite depressed. It is a definite recommendation, but not for every day I'd suppose.

Overall: 7.5

Time for some bloopers

In this post I told you guys about our Supernatural Parody we made a year ago. I was planning on making a video today, but I'm in bed cuddled up today because I'm sick. Yikes! So I thought today would be a good day to share the blooper video which I finally finished this week. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do as I burst out laughing every time I watch it.
And as this is a year ago.. You can see how much my hair changed.

I do plan on making some photos for a little apartment sneak peak for all of you. As some of the stuff we ordered is delayed. Sorry guys! But the room tour will come in the end.

Crush #7: Jennifer Lawrence

If I would've said I loved Jennifer Lawrence 2 years ago, everyone would've asked me who she was. But now, and especially after last week Oscars. Everyone knows who she is. After Tumblr going absolutely crazy about all Jennifer's interview about a year ago. She started to get more known. And because I'd read the Hunger Games books about 4 years ago and she casted as Katniss. I started researching and watched her first movie Winter's Bone. For which she got an Oscar nomination at 19 years old. GIFs of Jennifer are everywhere on the internet and she seems like a really genuine and fun person to be with.
People say she came from the internet and just got famous. Did you all see her interview getting intruded by Jack Nicholson? Or her interview at Jay Leno? I've spend multiple evenings just looking at interview with Jennifer. Girl crush? I'd definitely say so! And I have to admit when she just got casted.. Me and the rest of the District12.be team, (I'm a co-admin) weren't to sure. She was blonde and not really the girl we had in mind. And look how it turned out now? We all love Jennifer and she did such an amazing job as Katniss. And not to forget about Silver Linings Playbook, which I watched this week. She absolutely deserved that Oscar.

Her personality seems great and isn't she beautiful? What do you think of Jennifer?

One year anniversary: Supernatural Parody

I realised that I never really shared this before. A video I shot with a group of good friends. With a script, special effects and all that business. I'm still quite proud of this project as I wrote, directed, produced and edited this video. (oh and I have a little cameo, or actually.. I am Castiel) Luckily I had some help in all of that. This is a Supernatural parody. Made by a group of fans. A group I met through conventions, school and the fandom. And to make it a little more fun, I'm going to add some behind the scenes photos.

Today it's been a bit more then a year ago that we shot this and I actually only just started working on the bloopers/behind the scenes. So let me know if you'd like to see those. Because then I'll post them as soon as I'm finished. If you don't watch Supernatural.. That's okay! Hope you'll still enjoy watching the video.

So as a dedication to the one year anniversary of our parody. Here it is! Plus some behind the scenes photos shot by the lovely Dewi. For more info about everyone in the video, check the Youtube description or the end credits.

In case you can't see the Youtube video.. It's on VIMEO as well.

Death is coming for everyone and everything

Some of you might know how big of a Game of Thrones fan I am. That's why I'll leave you guys with the season 3 trailer today. I'm halfway through 'A Storm of Swords, 2: Blood and Gold now and am really trying to finish it before the season starts. But I can tell you guys.. This season is going to be epic and once again very disturbing!
While reading I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that George R.R. Martin doesn't kill any of my favourite characters.. Because that's probably about to happen quite soon. While seeing this.. I can't wait to get my Daenerys costume out and wear it on an event. I can't wait for the 31st of March!

Does any of you watch Game of Thrones? If you don't.. Would you want to watch it?

A part of my childhood

Harry Potter. Who doesn't know about the boy who lived. And all though I'll tell you a bit more about my story about the obsession and Harry Potter in another blog post. I really wanted to share this video. For the last 13 years of my life I've been a massive Harry Potter fan and because I'm currently re-watching all the movies because my boyfriend hasn't seen any of them..

I really wanted to share this with all of you. I've been to a premiere in London and waited for 28 hours to see all the celebrities, had Harry Potter lego collections when I was younger, dressed up as Hermione and went to the studio tour. (Like I said.. More in another blogpost about this) It has been a big part of my childhood and I met a lot of people because I had an Emma Watson fansite called shining-emma.nl, and yes, really I did. This video shows a lot of good memories and that's.. Why I really wanted to share it with all of you.

If you want to know what I did for my Harry Potter obsession? Keep an eye out for tomorrow's blogpost.

Crush #6: Robert Downey Jr.

It was about time for another crush. And I definitely don't want to miss out on one of my favourite male actors. Robert Downey Jr. Most of you might know him as Iron Man or Sherlock Holmes. But as I still have to watch a lot of his movies, I think he's funny and great. I got a small glimpse of him at the Sherlock Holmes (Game of Shadows) premiere in London last year.

Robert Downey Jr. is born New York City on 4 april 1965. And most famous for his roles in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Zodiac, Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes and the Avengers. I think you guys must have seen him in one of these right?

What do you think of Robert Downey Jr.? Did you see any of his movies?

Crazy things I did in life #2

And the crazy things I did in life is back! Another story about something I did. This one is going to be about more then one event. It's about conventions, and with that I don't mean book, holiday or business conventions. I mean conventions you go to because you're a fan of something. You might've heard about Comic Con? Well that's one of them. I've been to a few, and I'll tell you about it here.
First.. I've been to four conventions:
- Twilight NL Con (I was a volunteer at this event, Nieuwegein, the Netherlands)
- Asylum 7 (Birmingham, UK)
- Asylum Europe 3 (Bad Wildungen, Germany)
- RingCon (Bonn, Germany)
And LeakyCon (London, UK) is to come in August 2013.

Similar events:
- Elf Fantasy Fair (I went to the Utrecht, Haarzuilens editions 4 times, twice to Arcen, so 6 in total, both in the Netherlands)
- Entertainment & Media Show (London, UK)
- Collectormania 18 (London, UK)

TV shows: My favourites

I'm obsessed with tv shows, in total I've been following around 25 tv shows. No random episodes involved. Some of them got cancelled, others ended. But at the moment there are still 13 shows I'm watching weekly. And of course some of them are on a hold and won't start until the summer. Plus there are still a lot of shows I want to start like Breaking Bad, the Walking Dead, Arrow and Revolution. If you want to see which shows I watch.. Check out my media page. But in this post I wanted to tell you about my top 5 ever. The five tv shows I enjoyed most, even though they are cancelled, ended or are still showing. Here we go:

Video: First shopvlog

So this is my very first shopvlog. As a lot of you were telling me I shouldn't look at the side of my camera (yes there's a screen there), I took the advice and tried to keep it in mind. It didn't work the entire video as I had to re-shoot a part as I didn't even take notice of looking at myself in the screen. It is quite long so if you don't get through the entire video and me babbling around I don't blame you. I also noticed that I stumbled upon some words because I wanted to talk to fast. It's also my very first ever shopvlog so I hope I did alright and hope you enjoy the video!

This is where I got everything:
Topshop. Superdrug, Lush, H&M, eBay, HMV

P.S. I'm sorry for the yellow light, the day I shot this video was really dark and gray. And as my room is not to big, I don't have that much options.

Crush #6: Ian Somerhalder

It was about time for another crush. Ian Somerhalder. Most of you might know him as Damon Salvatore in the Vampire Diares, or maybe Boone in Lost. He has been a model before his acting career but picked the acting over the modeling. But Ian also has his own foundation called ISF. (Ian Somerhalder Foundation) And as I worked along to the International Green Awards (in London) last year I know he won one for 'Most Responsible Celebrity' this year. He launched his foundation on the 8th of December 2010, which is also his birthday. He hopes to educate people on the importance of protecting the environment and animals: "Instead of gifts this year, my birthday wish is that we come together and raise funds to support projects that protect our habitat and nurture our furry friends.

And next to all that.. We have to say he's quite enjoyable to look at, isn't he?
